# Registration Policy

> Eligibility, naming rules, pricing, registration periods and the domain lifecycle at doma.in.

doma.in ("the registry", "we") registers names such as `example.co.fo` under the extensions it operates. This policy sets out who can register, how a domain is priced and the stages of its lifecycle. It is part of the [Terms of Service](/terms/), and every domain is also subject to the [Acceptable Use Policy](/aup/).

## 1. Accounts and Eligibility

Registrations, renewals and changes are made on https://doma.in after signing in. Each domain is assigned to its holder’s account.

Before you can place an order, your account email address must be verified. An account that has been disabled cannot place orders or change its domains.

You must be legally able to enter into a binding contract where you live, and you must have the authority of any organization you register a domain for.

## 2. Extensions and Names

Registrations are open under `.co.fo`, `.com.fo`, `.wz.io` and `.wz.org`. Each extension is separate: holding a name under one extension gives no claim to the same name under another.

The name is the part before the extension, such as `example` in `example.co.fo`. It must be a valid DNS label: letters, digits and hyphens, not starting or ending with a hyphen, within the length limits for that extension. Upper-case letters are treated as lower case. Internationalized domain names (IDN) are accepted only where the extension supports them, and only in the scripts it allows; a name may not mix scripts.

Names are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Placing an order holds the name for a short time while payment is pending.

## 3. Reserved and Premium Names

Some names cannot be registered. They include names kept for the registry's own use, names already present in the parent zone of an extension, and names reserved for rights holders, such as brand names. A reserved name may be released to a particular person with a single-use registration token issued by the registry. Reserving a name does not affect an existing registration.

Some names are premium. A premium name is priced by its length or individually, and its price is shown when you search for it. A premium name keeps its price category when it is renewed or restored.

## 4. Orders and Prices

Standard registrations start from $5.00 a year; the prices for each extension are listed on the [pricing page](/pricing/). The price of an order is shown before you place it and is fixed when the order is placed: a later price change does not affect it.

Orders are paid from the account balance, which is funded by redeeming vouchers; the [Terms of Service](/terms/) set out how the balance and vouchers work. An order is processed after payment. If a paid order cannot be fulfilled, for example because the name was registered by someone else in the meantime, the order fails and its amount is returned to the balance. The balance cannot be withdrawn.

The registry may change prices for registrations, renewals and restores. A change applies only to orders placed after it takes effect, never to a term already paid for.

## 5. Registrant Contact

Every domain has a registrant contact. A name, an email address and a country or region are required. An organization, a postal address (up to three street lines, city, state or province, postal code) and telephone and fax numbers with an optional extension may be added; if given, they are checked for format. The contact is recorded both as you write it and in Latin script.

The registrant's details must be accurate and kept up to date. The email address of a registrant contact must be verified within 15 days of the contact becoming a registrant or of its email address changing. A contact that uses your account's verified email address counts as verified. If the address is not verified in time, the domains that use the contact are put on hold (clientHold) and stop resolving until it is verified.

Each registrant contact receives an annual email listing their details and domains for review and correction.

## 6. Term and Renewal

A registration lasts from 1 to 10 years, chosen when you order. A renewal adds whole years to the current expiry date, up to the maximum term the registry allows.

Keeping track of the expiry date is your responsibility. The registry sends reminders by email before a domain expires, but a missed reminder does not extend the term.

## 7. Deletion

You can delete a domain from your account unless it is locked. A deleted domain enters the redemption period described in section 8, during which it can still be restored, however recently it was registered. Deleting a domain does not refund any fee.

## 8. Expiry, Redemption and Release

A domain that has not been renewed by its expiry date:

1. **Expires.** It stops resolving, but stays registered to you, and for 30 days after the expiry date it can be renewed at the renewal price.
2. **Enters redemption.** For the next 30 days it can only be restored. Restoration requires payment of the restore fee and a renewal that extends the expiry date beyond the current date.
3. **Is pending delete.** For 5 days it can no longer be renewed or restored.
4. **Is released.** It is removed and can be registered by anyone. A released domain cannot be recovered.

## 9. Nameservers and DNSSEC

The registry publishes delegation only. For each domain you set its nameservers, usually those of your DNS provider, and optionally DS records for DNSSEC. The registry publishes these NS and DS records in the parent zone and no other records. Records such as A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT are kept at your DNS provider; the registry does not host DNS, websites or email.

Nameservers within an extension operated by the registry would need glue records, which are not offered at present. Changes are published shortly after they are saved; the domain page shows when they are in effect in the zone.

## 10. Domain Locks and Status Codes

You can lock a domain. While it is locked, its nameservers, DS records and registrant cannot be changed and it cannot be deleted or transferred to another account until you unlock it. A domain's statuses follow the EPP conventions and are shown in RDAP.

## 11. Suspension

The registry may put a domain on hold (serverHold), so that it stops resolving, or apply other server statuses, if the domain violates this policy, the [Acceptable Use Policy](/aup/) or the law, or where required by a court or authority. A domain on hold stays registered. The registry may also delete a domain in serious cases.

## 12. Change of Holder

You can initiate a transfer to another account on this website from the domain management page. The recipient must accept the transfer and select one of their own contacts as the registrant. The transfer takes effect only after acceptance. For assistance, please email [support@cctld.com](mailto:support@cctld.com) from your account email address. A domain may not be sold or traded through the registry, and a change of holder does not change the expiry date.

## 13. Public Lookups (RDAP)

Anyone can look up a domain through the registry's RDAP service at [https://rdap.cctld.com](https://rdap.cctld.com). It shows the domain's status, its registration, expiry and change dates, its nameservers and its DS records. Registrant data is withheld except the country or region, unless the registrant has chosen to publish it; the [Privacy Policy](/privacy/) describes this in detail.

## 14. Changes to This Policy

The registry may change this policy. Changes are published on this page with a new date. If you keep a domain after a change takes effect, the changed policy applies to it.
